How To Make A Birthday Cake For Your Pets

How to make a dog cake or cat cake?

Are you planning what to prepare for your pet’s birthday? But what’s a birthday without a cake? Yes! Rev-up your pet’s birthday celebration with a customised birthday cake that’s complete with toppings and frosting. You can choose to order a pet-friendly cake from a local bakery or cafe, or you can dig in your pantry and whisk a gorgeous birthday cake for your fur baby. If you do decide to make the cake, be sure to use ingredients that are not harmful to dogs. The most common ingredients that are used in doggy birthday cakes include:

1. Flour

Choose whole-grain flour, such as wheat flour, because it’s a healthier option compared to all-purpose white flour which is extremely processed and has a very low nutrient count. If your pet is sensitive to wheat or is on a grain-free diet, you can use non-grain flour such as coconut flour.

2. Fruits

Seedless apples, carrots, blueberries, peas, pear, potatoes, strawberries, and pumpkin

3. Frosting

For the cake’s frosting, you can use applesauce, low-sugar yogurt, pumpkin puree, mashed potatoes, bananas, peanut butter, coconut oil, honey (small amount only), and sweet potato puree.

Homemade, No-bake, birthday cake recipes for pets

Get yourself some raw ground meat or mince it yourself, use a cake mold, and simply start building! Alternatively, get yourself some freeze-dried raw food, rehydrate and mold into the shape of a cake. Add some freeze-dried raw treats as toppings!

Important things to remember when making your own birthday cake

  • Check the ingredients carefully. Steer clear of ingredients that contain xylitol and other chemicals that are potentially harmful to pets.
  • Remove apple seeds before making a puree.
  • Use unsalted and xylitol-free peanut butter
  • Always offer in moderation. Just a slice or two will do; it’s not recommended to give the entire cake because your pet’s system is not used to it. An upset stomach after one’s birthday is never a good thing after all.
  • What’s left of your pet’s birthday cake need not be thrown away. Wrap it up with tin foil or in a sealed container and place it in the fridge where it’ll stay fresh for about a week. Just let it warm to room temperature before offering to your pet. You could also cut the cake into bite sizes and freeze them individually to give as special treats to your furball.
  • Cats have more selective palates and may refuse to eat certain foods. Know what your kitty likes best and use it as a special ingredient for the cake.
  • If you have several pets in your household, it is a good idea to have one slice of cake for each of them to prevent potential displays of aggressive behavior and food guarding.
